What's Being Built in Western Weber County?
A look at the stores, roads and neighborhoods taking shape west of I-15
If you've driven through West Haven, Farr West or Hooper lately, you've probably wondered the same thing I keep hearing from clients: what's going in over there?
In Part 1 of this series, I asked whether western Weber County is becoming the next suburban hot spot. This week, let's get specific. Here's a look at some of the projects that have been publicly reported: what's underway, what's approved, and what's still just a possibility.
🛒 West Haven is getting its first grocery store
West Haven became a city in 1991, but until now there hasn't been a grocery store inside city limits. That's changing. A 176,000-square-foot Walmart Supercenter is being built in the 4200 block of South Midland Drive. Crews broke ground on November 5, 2025, and the company has said it expects to open about a year later. The project is expected to bring roughly 300 jobs.
That's a big deal for a city that has grown fast. According to KSL, West Haven's population climbed about 43.5% between 2020 and 2024, to roughly 24,600 residents, the third-highest growth rate in the state.
🎯 Farr West Landing
In Farr West, a 50-acre mixed-use project called Farr West Landing is planned at the I-15 and 2700 North interchange, with Target as the anchor. According to KSL, the plan also includes 13 additional commercial spaces (about 269,000 square feet) and three apartment buildings with 274 units in total.
City leaders approved the project area plan in early March 2026, site work is underway, and Target construction is expected to begin this fall. Several retailers and restaurants have been mentioned as interested, but none have been confirmed, so I'd treat any names you hear as rumors until they're official.
Farr West's mayor told KSL that big retailers are looking beyond the traditional Riverdale and Ogden shopping areas because of the population growth west of I-15. That's the same trend we talked about in Part 1: businesses follow rooftops.
🥬 Hooper: a Smith's Marketplace on the table
Hooper has been part of the conversation, too. In 2025, KSL reported on a proposed mixed-use project that would include a 123,000-square-foot Smith's Marketplace, five other retail spaces and 117 housing units. At the time of that report, the zoning change the project needed had not been approved, so this one is still a "watch this space" item. If it matters to your plans, check with Hooper City for the latest.
🛣️ Roads
Transportation is what makes growth like this work. UDOT is extending SR-177 (the West Davis Highway) another 2.5 miles north into West Point, ending at 1800 North, with major construction scheduled to begin in August 2026. That work is happening in Davis County, right next to the Weber County line. A further extension into Weber County is still being studied, and it's one I'll be watching.
🏡 And of course, the homes
Stores follow rooftops, and there are plenty of new ones going in. As I mentioned in Part 1, there are hundreds of new-construction homes listed throughout Weber County, with active communities in West Haven, Farr West, Plain City and Taylor.
Next door, Marriott-Slaterville has taken a slower path. The city was founded to preserve open space, so most growth there comes as small townhome projects and custom homes on larger lots. See the Marriott-Slaterville community guide. For what's actually being built there and nearby, read my guide to new construction in Marriott-Slaterville.
So what does this mean for you?
If you're buying: a lot of the convenience buyers ask about, like groceries, shopping and restaurants, is headed west. But announced projects can be delayed, changed or canceled, so ask what's actually approved and what's still just a proposal before you make a decision based on it.
If you already own here: more amenities nearby can be a real plus. It also means more traffic and change, which brings us to Part 3.
Coming next in this series: What Does All This Growth Mean for Your Home's Value?
In the meantime, I'd love to hear from you. What's the newest thing you've noticed going up near you? Leave a comment or send me a message. Sometimes the people who live here spot the changes before the headlines do.
