Best Schools in Roy, Utah: A Parent's Guide (2026)

by Megan Smith

If you're looking at homes in Roy, Utah, the first question I usually hear is "Where would my kids go to school?" Roy is part of Weber School District, and it's one of the best-served cities in the county for families. Six elementary schools, two junior highs and Roy High School all sit inside city limits, and most kids in Roy can go from kindergarten through graduation without leaving town. A few neighborhoods on Roy's edges are assigned to schools in West Haven, Hooper or Washington Terrace, so it pays to check the exact address. There's also a charter elementary right on Midland Drive.

I'm Megan Smith, a Realtor with Real Broker, LLC. I've spent more than 20 years in real estate as an agent and investor. I'm also a mom and an active PTSA board member, so I look at schools the way a parent does. This guide lists every school serving Roy and answers the questions parents ask me most.

Rocky Mountain Junior High 7–9 4350 W 4800 S, West Haven, UT 84401

Here's the simple version. South Roy (Roy, Lakeview, Municipal and Freedom elementaries) feeds Roy Junior High. North Roy (North Park, Valley View and West Haven elementaries) feeds Sand Ridge. Midland Elementary is split between the two. The Country View neighborhoods on the west edge go to Rocky Mountain Junior High in West Haven.

High Schools (10–12)

West Field High School 10–12 2007 S 4300 W, Taylor, UT 84401

Most of Roy goes to Roy High, home of the Royals. When West Field High opened for the 2024–25 school year, the district redrew high school boundaries, and the westernmost Roy neighborhoods (the Country View and Rocky Mountain area) moved to West Field. If an older listing says every Roy address goes to Roy High, double-check it.

One more edge case: a small pocket on Roy's southeast side, near the Riverdale border, is assigned to Washington Terrace Elementary (20 E 4600 S, Ogden), T.H. Bell Junior High (165 W 5100 S, Ogden) and Bonneville High (251 E 4800 S, Ogden). If you're looking at a home on that edge of town, check the map.

A Parent's Guide to Schools in Roy: Your Questions Answered

How do school boundaries work in Roy?

Weber School District assigns every home an elementary school, a junior high and a high school based on its address. The district sets the boundaries, not Roy City, and they change when new schools open. Roy is a big city with a lot of schools, so two homes a few blocks apart can feed different schools, especially in the middle of town where Midland Elementary splits between Roy Junior High and Sand Ridge, and on the west side near West Haven and Hooper. Don't rely on what a neighbor's kids attended a few years ago.

How can I check which schools a specific Roy address feeds?

Use Weber School District's Boundary Maps page. It has separate 2026–27 maps for elementary, junior high and high school. Open the map you need, click the magnifying glass in the lower right corner, and type in the address. If a home sits right on a line, call the district office at (801) 476-7800 and give them the exact address. When I work with buyers, I check the school assignment for every home we're serious about before we write an offer, so there are no surprises after closing.

Can my child attend a school outside our boundary?

Often, yes. Utah has an open enrollment law, and Weber School District takes applications for schools outside your boundary. The district has an early application window each winter for the next school year. Late applications are approved only where there's room. A school can say no when it's full, and parents are responsible for getting their kids to an out-of-boundary school. You can find the details and forms on the district's Open Enrollment & Boundary Information page. Charter schools, including Bridge Elementary, Quest Academy and Venture Academy, take applications directly, usually through their own lottery.

Do schools affect home values in Roy?

Yes, though not in a way anyone can put an exact dollar figure on. Schools are one of the first things buyers filter by when they search, and that affects how fast a home sells and how many buyers compete for it. Roy has an advantage a lot of newer cities don't: established neighborhood schools close to the houses. Plenty of Roy homes are a short walk from an elementary school, and Roy High and Sand Ridge Junior High are just a couple of blocks apart off 2100 West. For a family, that walkability is a real selling point. When you sell, knowing your home's current school assignment is part of marketing it well, especially in the west-side neighborhoods that moved to West Field High. I won't promise that any single school adds a set amount to a home's price. But I will tell you how schools are playing into the homes selling around you right now.

Are Roy's schools a good fit for my family?

That depends on your kids. Roy's schools are established neighborhood schools in a city that has been raising families since the 1950s, and for many families that's exactly the draw. Some families prefer a charter's smaller class model or a specific program. I don't rank schools, and fair housing rules are part of why. For ratings and parent reviews, look at third-party sites like GreatSchools or Niche, then visit the schools yourself. Call the front office, ask for a tour, and go to a school event if you can. As a PTSA board member, I can tell you the parent organization is one of the best places to get an honest feel for a school.
